Who Are We
ICHF is a non-profit organization whose vision is to promote intercultural awareness by providing a platform for the interaction between Indian and American cultures through workshops, presentations, and performances. Its purpose is to stimulate an awareness of Indian arts and culture through education, training, and promotion. ICHF has participated in, as well as organized, numerous Indian dance programs in dance styles ranging from Bharatanatyam to Kathak to folk dance. The organization has sponsored workshops and programs conducted by various visiting artists of great repute from the Indian subcontinent.
History
Since its inception in 1995, ICHF has staged several productions involving DFW youth such as Discover India, Festivals of India (in collaboration with Texas Instruments), Jain Exhibit at the Kimbell Art Museum, Dance for the Planet, Dallas Morning News dance festivals, and participation in the City of Dallas' Neighborhood Touring Program. Some of the productions such as Jhankar and Virangana have been fundraisers benefiting DFW projects such as the DFW Hindu Temple and the Dallas Women's Museum. ICHF board and committee members have also conducted lectures and demonstrations on Indian Dance Styles at Texas Woman's University, SMU's TITAS UP-FRONT lecture series, and the Addison Dance Council. Additionally, in July 2003, the dance school associated with ICHF conducted a Dance and Diversity convention in San Antonio, Texas.
